How do I find a qualified doula?
Finding the right doula is about more than certifications—it’s about finding someone you trust, feel comfortable with, and can confidently invite into one of the most important moments of your life.
A great place to start is by asking for recommendations from:
- Friends, family, or other parents you trust
- Your OB-GYN, midwife, or healthcare provider
- Childbirth education classes
- Your local hospital or birth center
- Online searches and reputable doula directories in your area
When you’re interviewing doulas, don’t be afraid to ask about their training, certifications, experience, availability, philosophy of care, and how they support both you and your partner. The best doula for you is someone who listens well, respects your birth preferences, and makes you feel informed, empowered, and at ease.
